Studio Calico March - Quilting Bee

It's up! Time to race to the shop and load your carts with the March kit from Studio Calico.

This is what I came up with. I bought all three add-ons this month.

First, a fun thing the team did this month was to lift a layout in the gallery from one of our members. My sweet friend Dani has been sharing her work at SC, so she was an easy choice for someone to lift. I have had her Lolli Love layout in my favorites for a bit. I just adore the way she layered that crepe paper ribbon. So easy and effective! I *almost* asked if I could lift Everyday, but decided to get creative, as we didn't have crepe paper ribbon in the kit this month.

You'll notice the pink JBS paper is very textured.

To do that was simple. First, I chose the Jenni Bowlin paper because it isn't cardstock weight, and therefore easy to mess with. To make it look this was was simple. I trimmed the paper into strips. And then I ran them under the faucet, scrunched them up, and then flattened them back out again. When they dried they were warped and crinkly, just like crepe paper.

I then layered them just as Dani did, and sewed them down. I chose to layer mine on patterned paper and then adhere that to kraft, because I needed some of my plain in this layout, lol. The colors and patterns on their own were scaring me a bit.

To mimic Dani's journaling box, I used one of the super cool veneer circles, and then added some green stars made with the medium star punch from Fiskars.

Voila!
Do your kids have Twinkletoes from Skechers? Mine are obsessed with them. I admit, I think they are super cool too, and wish they also came in my size. Alas......
On to the second layout:

I think Becky Fleck changed me forever with regards to my two pagers. I don't know. When trying to come up with a design with these photos, I was really inspired by how she did her journaling box on her January sketch for my Project 12 challenge, so I decided to incorporate something similar with this layout. It worked perfectly with my photos.

I loved the great big flowers so decided to use them on this layout. It's a bit of a play on words, really. The title is "at her own pace" and Payton can sometimes be one of those who likes to "stop and smell the roses". Makes sense, huh, huh?

The polka dots on my butterflies was easy. First I sprayed the chipboard with creme mist. Then I took a scrap piece of cardstock, punched holes in it, and layered it over the butterfly, after which I sprayed it with pink mist. Have a wee bit of fun with my mists there.
I also used two of the stamps in the kit. Isn't that trike adorable? I had to go with pink to match Payton's pink bike in the layout (the frame is in the wedding ring add-on, the bike is in the honeycomb add-on).
I'm proud of myself and my use of white space on this one. I could have gone with more patterned paper, but I held myself back!

I decided to go pretty and 8.5 x 11 with my last layout of the month.

The AC ribbon was already ruffled a bit, but I ruffled it some more and used two rows of it on my layout for some fun texture.

The rose ribbon is pretty, and I wanted to do something besides lay it across my layout. One of the smaller veneer circles worked perfectly as a frame, so I trimmed out one bloom and added some leaf pins.

My photo is what I'm most excited about. That's printable fabric! I'm hoping to get some added to the shop at SC. I distressed it a bit so that it was more obvious that it was fabric. LOVE how it turned out.
That's it for layouts this month. I just ran out of time.
I did have one more project with the kit this month. Here's my baby, the Patchwork add-on.
This features delicious Nicey Jane fabric from Heather Bailey as well as canvas pendants from Maya Road and delicious vintage style buttons from Jenni Bowlin. SO fun.

Another fun thing about this project kit is the photo transfer paper, as well as the additional canvas. There's so much of it that after finishing my banner, I still have plenty of product to use on another project that I'll share with you soon. I just need to add a Lizzy flower or two (they weren't at SC headquarters when the DT boxes were ready to ship so I've had to be patient and wait until my next shipment to get them).

This project kit also contains photos and instructions to recreate this banner:

There were a couple of fun flowers made with fabric for this project, so the instructions for these will be fun to have on hand as well.
On top of another assignment or two, this is why I've been so busy! It's a lot of work to know what you are going to do in advance, so that you can document the process with photos and words. In the daylight. :)

Additional product I purchased to make this banner extra special were:

the I top tool (and this tool has paid for itself already with the use it has gotten, especially with fabrips! I can't wait to share the layout I'm working on right now that has fabrip brads).

You will still be able to create a beautiful banner with the project kit if you do not have these items, but I used them and had a lot of fun with them so I thought I would let you know what I picked up.

As I mentioned, there is photo transfer paper in this kit. At first, I had a hard time deciding what type of photos to use with it. Baby photos? Favorite photos? The photos Steve took of me with the girls? In the end I decided to channel my inner Jenni Bowlin, and I took photos of my favorite old things/ junk around the house so that I could have a vintage style banner for my scrapbook room. I have a photo of an old milk can, a Coca Cola crate, my favorite rooster salt and pepper shakers, and some blue Ball jars. It was fun to explore the house for junk to photograph. I wanted to use a window and some of my old suitcases, but having to trim the pendant in a triangular shape limited the way I could photograph my subjects, so I had to pick and choose.

If you pick up this add-on and have any questions creating your projects, please let me know! AND be sure to share your finished projects by linking me here or loading them to the gallery at Studio Calico. I'd love to see!
Have a great night! Davinie

Project 12 winners! And Studio Calico reveal tonight!

Good Saturday morning!

I survived my birthday, and the family already went for a jog this morning. Today is starting out great! The girls may or may not ever get their room clean, but I wanted to pop in really quick.

The Project 12 winners have been announced on the Scrapbook and Cards Today blog. Thank you so much to everyone that played along!

I highlighted some of the entries posted at SCT, but I will be sharing some links that were made here on my March 1 post. I was really inspired by some of the projects made, that didn't involve 2 page layouts, and didn't involve the sketch.

This challenge is about highlighting YOUR life and you should get to do that in whatever most inspires you. I can't wait to share!

My March 1 post is also the post to link your layouts for February, so be sure to wait until that post before you start linking.

Tonight is also reveal night for the March kit at Studio Calico, so if you didn't make the presale, be sure to check in at the site tonight!

The shop is loaded on reveal morning, and I noticed a lot of fun stuff is gone, but I see that the Cherry Delicious tags are still there. I would recommend those, as there is some fun Sassafras in this kit.
The mists are also going like hotcakes, but there's still some Hydrangea mists left. That's what I used for my banner this month. I'm glad I picked that one up.
There's also been a lot of talk regarding new adhesive by American Crafts. I haven't tried it yet, but a lot of the girls have and think it's great. The solid glue runner is here. The glue dot runner is here, and they even stocked refills, which are here.

In the meantime, be sure to check the Studio blog here. We are giving away some new Basic Grey! I have both of these lines and I love them more than I thought I would, so enter for your chance to win!

Also, if you are looking for a chunk of my scrapbook room, check here. I am happy to make room. You might notice a few new new items in that stack.

Phew! Is that enough linkage for you? lol.

Have a wonderful Saturday! I'm thinking of my Hawaiian friends, hoping everyone is safe, and my Northeastern friends with all that snow too.

Something for you on my birthday

First, I want to send some sticky vibes to the Foster family. They are getting pregnant on my birthday and we want the baby(s) to stick! Huge hugs to April and Greg today.

Second, it's my birthday today. And because of my wonderful hubby and two sweet girls, every birthday is the best birthday. I woke up to handmade crafty creations, and Steve made me a breakfast burrito with the word MOM spelled out in cheese (i'm sure he was in heaven, doing something nice for me AND eating cheese at the same time. boy).

The house smells like cake as the girls make 3 cakes to celebrate my 29th birthday yet again. One for us, and one each for them. This is fine by me as they tend to over frost, lol. They can do that on their own creations.

This evening we area headed to a family dinner at Olive Garden which should be fun. I'm really looking forward to it. I haven't been to Olive Garden in several years but we just had one open up down the road in Bend. We were going to go on Valentines Day but decided to wait it out in the hopes that a later date might result in a shorter wait for a table. So wish us luck!

In celebration of my birthday, I haven't scrapped at all (last night I stayed up until 11 to watch the women figure skaters, and they were awesome) and I have been cleaning up the scrappity room a bit.

I decided to give some of it away, and this great big box doesn't even put a dent in my stash, so I'm sure I'll be doing it again soon.

Just leave me a comment letting me know what your favorite restaurant is. International friends, you are welcome to do so too if you are willing to split the shipping cost with me. I'm sur this box would be expensive to send, and I couldn't find a flat rate box that fit 12x12 paper, so regular priority box it is:

Lots of good stuff in here. I promise.

I'm going to spend some quality time with the hubby and my girls this weekend, so I'll be back on Monday to choose a winner.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Cardalicious 34 and some delicious sneaks from Studio Calico

It was after dark one night last week and I was taking a last minute photo of my card for Cardalicious when Morgan walked up to me and showed me her latest creation. You see, this is a child who definitely inherited some of my crafty genes. I have my own scrapbook room, and she does too. We have this area under the stairs that we call the "hideout" and it used to have extra toys in it. Now that the girls are getting older, it's needs have changed to a place to contain the wild shapes and extra trimmings from two small girls and their crafts. Morgan calls it her Scrapbook room. And she's in there all. the. time (hmmm, sounds familiar).

So I'm taking photos of my card and she hands me this layout she just made. She asked what I thought of it, and then she wanted me to take a photo. She then asked if I thought a magazine would like it. Seriously. Bestill my heart.

Of course I think she's the most talented young 6 year old on the planet, so I just had to share her artwork.

Look at that. Brads on the corners. The photo framed in gems. A handcut heart. And a title. She's just now learning to read, so the fact that she sounded out an appropriate title blows my mind.

You should see some of the other things she has done lately. I'll have to share details after reveal, but it involves some of the techniques I used myself on a couple of my Studio Calico layouts and other projects this month.

That girl. Amazing.

Anyway, back to my card. Cardalicious is alive and kicking and I wanted to share the card I made for the current challenge. The challenge was this:

2 flowers

stickers

polkadots

And this is what I came up with:

(The red paper is Jillibean Soup. Polkadots are from October Afternoon, flowers from Sassafras, and Basic Grey alphas. The sticker is from a Pink Paislee sticker book).

I really like how it turned out! Be sure to check out Cardalicious 34 to see what the other girls came up with for this challenge. A challenge like this is a great way to use up scraps and also jumpstart you if you need some inspiration.

Between the Olympics and some of the assignments I've had this month, I'm one tired puppy, but I finally finished my projects for Studio Calico this month and can't wait to share them all. For now, here's the long awaited sneaks:

I got all three add-ons this month and am really happy about it. I also purchased the I Top tool, and hydrangea mist, although I used the pink from my stash more than I thought I would (shocking, I know).

Only a couple more days before reveal! Be sure to check back here on Friday though. It's my birthday (another year older, yay! ?????), so I'm giving away a chunk of the contents in my scrapbook room. You will not be disappointed!

Have a great day! Davinie

P.S. Excuse the mess

I'm revamping....

I'm going on a date....

with these two hooligans.

Daddy is out of town this weekend so the girls and I are headed to Red Robin for lunch (and going out to lunch is a rarity for sure) and then we are headed to the Tower Theatre to check out the Tweaksters. Well, after we stop at Bath and Body for some new shower gel for me and then maybe the Gap and the Children's Place for them .... my growing girls need a new wardrobe, as evidenced by Payton's choice outfit for the day. Nice pants, sugar. Remind me to toss those in the Goodwill bag when you aren't looking. Cute shoes though.

I've never seen the show before. I don't know anything about it. I just hope the kids like it. Hopefull a 3 and 6 year old aren't too hard to entertain.

My Project 12 - I am in scrap love with Becky Fleck

If you are looking to submit a layout for the Project 12 challenge, click the Project 12 button on my sidebar, or head to this post.

I am extremely excited and inspired by the number of participants! EEK! I am so glad so many of you are taking the challenge with me. I have been swamped with assignments but plan to visit every link to that thread to leave a comment. Bear with me!

Prizes are nice too! The prize up for grabs this month is both the Homefront and Anthology Collections from Studio Calico. Not too shabby!

I wanted to share my layout with you as well as some tips and challenges I faced when creating it.

First I have to say that Becky made it SO easy for me to create this month. I am going to need her in my back pocket for the rest of my life, lol. I have a lot of life to document!

As a reminder, here is the January sketch:

And this is what I came up with:

I tried to follow it as closely as I could, but had to make a few alterations.

1. I wanted to use some photos I took of the girls at a birthday party, but they weren't very good quality photos, and the one of Morgan hurtling herself into the foam pit wasn't the least bit in focus, so I didn't want to make the photos as large as Becky sketched out. Instead, I reduced the size of both photos but increased the size of the photo Payton took of Morgan and I.

2. My spacing is a little bit different as well because I like the white frames on my photos. I've tried not having them, but I just really like how they make photos pop.

3. I had fun with it, but stitching was a challenge. It's difficult to spin a 12x12 layout around a sewing machine while trying to create circles. I love the look though. And where normally I'd stitch down the perimeter paper, with this layout I decided to follow Becky's sketch and only stitch where she has shown stitching. If you don't use a sewing machine, just take a Sharpie to it!

4. Speaking of perimeter paper, that was another challenge. It was hard to go through my stash and look for two patterns of the same print, as you need more than 1 12x12 piece of paper for the largest section of patterned background paper. Knowing I needed two pieces, I went immediately to my Cosmo Cricket stash, as their Collection packs come with two of each piece.

I mixed the Cosmo Earth Love paper with Crate Paper's Brook line. The colors don't perfectly mesh, but there are so many different shades of blue and green in the Brook line that in the end, they do go together. Loved that. It made it very easy to work with.
For my title I wanted to use my Maya Road calendar sheers, and to make my year cohesive, I chose to use Studio Calico calendar stamps as well. I plan to use both of these elements every month, along with kraft as the base to my layouts.

I also purchased that great big Marvy snowflake punch with a 40% coupon from Michael's (here's the link to the spot on the Michael's site where you can sign up to receive emails with coupons, etc). I'm in love with that snowflake punch and don't know why I didn't already have it.

So there you have it.

Remember, the deadline is February 20 at midnight PST (that's tonight!) to participate in this challenge.

The winner's of the two prize packs will be announced on the Scrapbook and Cards blog on February 27, as well as the reveal of the next sketch.

I like seeing the sketches ahead of time, because it helps me plan my photographs. In January, we had Morgan's birthday, and when I saw the sketch in December, I knew I wanted to make sure to get a good vertical photo of her at some point, because I had a 5x7 slot in the sketch.

So, before February is finished, remind yourself what lies ahead with the February sketch:

Fun fun!
Now remember: The most important thing to know about this challenge is that you do NOT have to do the sketch. You do NOT have to do a 12x12 layout. Just document a month in your life and link it to the comments section so you can win a prize.
Have a great day! Davinie

Project Landscape Renovate

While I'd love to give you some prose about the beauty and grandour surrounding me in Oregon, truth be told, it is not always thus.

Yes, I live in a mountainous recreational area. During the summer Bend hosts the Pole Pedal Padel, and in one event you ski, bike, run, kayak, and run to the finish line, all in the same race, and all on the same day. You can do it all here.

But the climate is referred to as the high desert. Many people think it rains all the time here, but that isn't true. If you are in Portland, you will drive up and over the Cascade Mountain range as you head south, and 2.5 hours later you will get to my house.

We are at an elevation of 3077 feet (to be exact).

We should have snow right now. But for some reason, it all landed in DC.

In the summer we institute Cold Zone Gardening, which means it isn't easy to grow things here (well, it is for some people, but not for ME). It can still freeze at night in the summertime. Not good for growing hydrangeas, don't you know.

That said, I love it here. And I'm busy renovating to create a beautiful home to raise my girls. But it needs a lot of work.

The previous owners of 20 years planted a zillion trees around this 2 acre property. The problem is, many were planted too close together, so they are growing into each other, and just aren't healthy.

These three pine trees are smack dab in the middle of my backyard.

We've never been happy with these trees. They drop needles and pine cones, so my little ones have to take care of their precious bare feet when they are zipping around the yard. They suck the water out of the ground and are killing the lawn.

We've gone back and forth a million times regarding what to do with them. They are mature trees. You should keep them. But they are unhealthy and growing into each other. They won't last forever this way. Do you take out the middle one, leave just the one on the far left, all of them? We don't know.

But alas, after 4 years in this house, we still aren't certain what to do.

Wait? What was that? Did you notice a little something on the lower left of the above photo? Did it look like this?

Oh my goodness. Is that Steve? Is that, dare I say, a chainsaw?

Why yes. Yes it is. You see, a decision was made, and Steve, who spent his summers working for the Forest Service while in school, therefore having mad chainsaw skillz, spent Monday morning out in the yard, and this is what he did:

(Polaroids made with Poladroid)

What we have here is a lot of pressure. Pressure because we have a huge backyard, and now we have a huge backyard without 3 great big trees in it, which means that you are really going to be able to see the lawn, which means it needs to be pretty. We don't even have an underground sprinkler system at this house. That's a lot of pressure to put on a lawn. And me, the waterer of said lawn.
Taking out those three trees revealed a great big tree that sits just outside the fenced yard. That's nice. And you can't see it, but to the left of that tree is the chicken coop and two baby apple trees, and to the right is the fenced garden, which WILL be planted this year.
So there you have it. The renovation continues...... with a lot of work to be done.

Davinie
P.S. Back soon with Studio Calico sneaks. And Project 12 (you still have a few days on that one).

Some Anthology and a crafty preview

I am knee deep in what has turned out to be a very challenging crafty assignment. Challenging in ways I hadn't expected. There was a thread on the message board at Studio Calico about what tool or technique you could not do without, and I have been tested with this assignment with restrictions that have really challenged me as a papercrafter in ways I hadn't expected. Perhaps I will come out the other side with a new look on crafting in general, but for right now....

I want to pull my hair out.

I'd rather:

clean the toilets

listen to kids fighting (who are we kidding. That's actually not true)

fold the laundry

declaw the cats

than look at this assignment any longer.

So today, I pushed it aside. It may have been more of a shove, but aside it went, and I broke out some of my favorite products and tools and techniques and had a lot of fun.

I needed to get in an Anthology layout for the month, so this was a great opportunity to do so.

For this layout, I decided to mix some Anthology with one of my new favorite lines from CHAW10, Crate Paper's Brook line. They work really well together. It was fun to mix floral prints with Studio Calico's more clean and modern designs.

Remember that post before CHA about the crazy sewing I was trying to do? Pleating? Well, where the pleating didn't work for my outfit, it does work on a layout. I love the imperfect pleating here. I just trimmed a random strip of fabric, sewed two straight lines down the middle, grabbed hold of the ends of the understitching, and tugged, gathering here and there. When it got to the width I wanted, I tied the ends. Voila! Perfect accessory to any layout, if I do say so myself.

It just occurred to me that this technique would have been great for the challenge that was this week on the Studio Calico blog, ruffles. Maybe it was a bit of ESP that inspired me to do this here. Funny how it works sometimes.

This flower was made with a great big chipboard shape from Crate Paper's Brook line (the package comes with 49 pieces!), and a brad I made using the new I Top tool , the medium brad daddies, and a small fabrip circle. I tried this tool at CHA and it looked like a fun way to add dimension in the color I want, so when April added it to the shop at Studio Calico I quickly snatched it up. You can also pick up the small brad daddies, as well as the punches and template needed to make these brads. I didn't see the punches when the tool was first added to the shop, but I might pick up one anyway because it would also be a fun punch to add to my stash in general. You don't need one though. You can either trace and trim out your shape using the template, or you can also get away with a small scallop punch. I used one from Stampin' Up that looks to be about 1 3/4" for the medium brad.
So there's my layout!
Before I go I did want to share a sneaky peek at a project I have been busy working on.

Why yes, that would be some misting. In Hydrangea, to be exact. And some canvas. There's also a wee peek at a piece of fabric from a line I may have referenced earlier in this post.
I can't wait to share the finished project! I've been having a lot of fun with it.

Have a great day! Davinie

Preschool Valentines

It's already one of those weeks. One of those weeks where time is moving so fast that if you don't just take a moment to take it all in, your life will just swiftly pass you by.

I took one of those moments yesterday. It was Payton's preschool Valentine party and she was so excited to bring me home a little necklace she had made. Morgan has given me one in the past, but today? Today I took a moment to really cherish it for the precious gems they are. They are made of macaroni, so it won't be long before my sweet little ones will try to reclaim the jewelry which means it will eventually get broken and lost for good. Payton gave me this one, and I immediately put it on, and handed Steve the camera so we could capture the moment.

She was so proud of it, and I was living in the moment, so I'm not even going to be upset about that darn lazy eye in this photo (helloooo left eye! Open up a wee bit more at picture time. K?). I am just going to focus on my beautiful baby and the joy on her face. She can be such a ham.

That girl has been driving me batty lately, so I need to focus on this sweet moments. It won't be long before she has other things on her mind besides torturing her mama in the sweetest way possible.

I taught my very first scrapbook class at CKC Portland last weekend. Going into it I was so nervous. It is really important to me to do a good job, I want to make sure people enjoy themselves, learn something new, and have fun. So yes. Nervous. But even when I experienced my worst fear at my very first class of the day, the projector not working, I still came away feeling great about the experience (and the second session was much better, I have to say).

I also want to give a shoutout to the wonderful ladies I met in Portland, members of the Studio Calico boards. While in class I didn't want to single the group out, creating a sort of clique and excluding the rest of the class, but I wanted to make sure I said hello. I have to tell you though.... these women are the nicest, most supportive ladies there are. I'm not kidding. They were there to cheer me on, help me out, and support a community we all cherish. So thank you to each and every one of you. I said I would forget names, but hope that I am remembering Molly, Erika, Linda, and the sweet gal sitting next to her. THANK YOU.

My sister Alyca came down to help me with my classes, so my mom got to spend Saturday with the girls, which is why I took them to Portland with me. Grammabon time. A friend came over, and the two of them took the girls all over Portland, city style. They took a bus to OMSI, and then took the MAX to Beaverton and back, just for fun. My girls had a BLAST. When I was done with classes we raced home so that we could take the girls to the Lloyd Center, and they went ice skating for the first time to round out the day. I was nervous about this too. My kids can barely get around on their own two feet without taking a tumble, so I was already anticipating an emergency room visit or at least a great big goose egg, should they skate.

I was wrong.

They LOVED it.

Mom manned the camera and Alyca and I took turns with a kid, and we went around the rink. It wasn't long before the girls were pulling us along. Morgan was more independent, and wanted to hold just one hand, but Payton was perfectly content with dragging me behind her as she skated along.

It was a lot of fun.

And a great work out, to be honest. I did NOT want to fall. So I was holding myself up, and holding a kid up. On skates. Go abs!

And then we raced home Sunday morning, dropped off our bags, jumped back in the car, and headed to Steve's parent's house for our annual Superbowl party. And watched the Saints come marching in (SO happy for them).

And now the week is half over as I settle back into the routine of work, school, mothering, house chores, and I'm trying to relocate my craft table following CHA becuase I am still knee deep in assignments that need to get done. Yesterday. It's always nice to have assignments, but I look forward to that moment when I have none so I can do whatever I want. Or nothing, if I so choose. Maybe next week.

Happy Wednesday! While at CKC I was so excited to pick up some Basic Grey Kioshi, and then I stumbled upon a shop with all the new American Crafts in it, so of course I cleaned out the Lizzy bin and picked up some Abode too. I can't wait to play with it all, so I'll be back with some new stuff soon.

Studio Calico's Masking and Misting at CKC Portland February 5-6

Do you live in the Portland area? Interested in taking a fun class?

Yours truly will be headed to Portland on Friday to teach a masking and misting class sponsored by Studio Calico. Doesn't that sound fun?

I just received the numbers today and there are still a couple of spots in each session. The first is almost full so if you have a group, try for the 1:30 class on Saturday.

Online registration is now closed but you can still register in Portland at the event.

I hope you will try and attend! The vendor faire alone is sure to be stocked with goodies as well. They need to replenish their stock at the beginning of the year, and February and the Portland CKC marks the first event of 2010.

I just double checked with Miss Kelly, and there's a good chance that you might see a bit of this if you head to the Vendor Faire for a little shopping:

Yum. New Basic Grey.

Studio Calico won't have a booth at the vendor's faire, but I have a couple of giveaways, including product and add-on kits, so look forward to that!

Below is a link for a $3 coupon on admission to the Vendor Faire:

https://custom.cvent.com/6D529F8CF93744F6B8C463F308F02572/files/eeb0424daeac4286b65d08545952f50b.pdf

Enjoy!

I am teaching a masking and misting class at this event. This type of class will be a lot more fun if you have your photos with you, so I wanted to make sure if you were headed to Portland you have the photos you need.

In this class we will be doing two layouts, and the first layout required 3 photos that will be trimmed to size 3x3. The theme of this layout is favorite things, so you might choose photos of three of your favorite things, a photo of your pet or your child with two other photos of their favorite things, etc.

The second layout requires one 4x6 horizontal photo. The color scheme and theme of the paper used for this layout involves this color palette, so think spring or summer photos:

And here is one of the layouts I will be teaching in the class, using the 4x6 photo:

There are several thicker shapes to choose from for your misting. April and Maggie used the strawberry and the pear shapes. I decided to go with waves to show you that you can create a layout and customize it to your photos.

Doesn't it look fun! Studio Calico fans will be happy, because your class kit also comes with a coupon t0 use for shopping fun at StudioCalico.com

I hope to see you on Saturday! Be nice to me! This is my first CKC class and I am very excited and nervous at the same time. SC members/subscribers: Please be sure to let me know your username, etc. I hope to get a group photo too, if there's time.

Project 12 challenge - February

Hello!
February 1 is here!

I know there is some confusion regarding this challenge with Scrapbook and Cards, so if you have any questions, please ask here so I can answer them for you.

Basically, it's this. I have been hosting this challenge on my own since 2009. In 2010 I am cohosting this challenge with Scrapbook and Cards Today. In January we were working on our December layouts. I tried including those who were jumping onboard in 2010 by offering to include cover pages, etc., in January.

You can't actually scrapbook the month until it is over, so now that January is finished, it's time to post those January layouts.
You have until February 20 to link me your layout. If you link your layout at SCT as well, you now have two chances to win the prize. The prize for this month is this:

That's right! The Homefront AND the Anthology Collections from Studio Calico! weeee!
Simply link your layouts on this thread. YOu have until midnight PST on February 20. Shortly thereafter the winner will be announced.
Be sure to check the SCT blog for additional detail about this challenge, or my Project 12 blinkie on my sidebar.
Clear as mud? I know it's a little awkward this first month. Also, I will always be posting my Project 12 thread on the first of the month, but SCT will be posting it a couple of days earlier. B sure to wait until the first if you wish to enter for the giveaway on my blog, so that you get your layouts linked to the appropriate thread.
EDITED TO ADD:
If you do not have a blog or a gallery where you upload your projects but still would like to play along, email an image of your project to ideas@scrapbookandcards.com - They are going to start a Facebook gallery and will load your project there. It will count as your post on the SCT blog, so you will still have a chance to win. (thank you for the question, Lilian!).
:)
Sound good? Have a great February!
Oh! P.S. There was a post on the Studio Calico boards about the 365 challenge and how that was too difficult. A wonderful idea was brewed; take photos in February. I think this is a great idea so I wanted to share an additional idea for you today. "28 things I love in February". Won't that make a great layout?! I can't wait to play along myself.
