A graduate and a sneak

Yikes! I can't believe it's been so long since I last blogged!

let's see... what have I been up to this week? Oh yes. Graduation. Small children. Moving to the big league. Me, practically popping pills in the back of the bleachers, while at the same time manning a video camera, my Canon, and a 4 year old who was busy stepping on the dozen pink roses we'd just bought at the store.

Ack.

I thought becoming a Kindergardner and entering public schools was the big time, but I was wrong. Contemplating days this fall where she's in school all day, every day, is enough to make this mama curl into the fetal position.

I also realized how unfair being the eldest can be. For the next two years, PJ is going to have quality time with mom and dad while Morgan is gone all day. Morgan's one-on-one time occurred from birth to 2 years, when she figured it would be all about her anyway, and it was. I'm going to have to find a way to get quality time with my girl. How do other people do it? If you have any thoughts, let me know.

For now, some peeks on her last day. She bathed the night before and I put her hair in several braids so it'd be nice and fluffy for Graduation.

I'm not thrilled with how these turned out. I took photos of the girls on the first day of school with this old desk and wanted to do it again on the last, but was rushed that morning and hefted the thing outside about 2 minutes before we needed to leave. School days were cut at the end of the year for elementary school because of budget cuts, so Payton's last day is actually Tuesday. I plan to do a retake of Morgan with Payton then. I can't wait to scrap the photos side by side to see how much they've changed.

Other than that, I've been busy with yard work. We've been working a lot on curb appeal and I can't wait to see what it looks like when we are finished. One of our projects is a sprinkler system and that makes my heart smile. Green grass = happy!

I'll admit to being a bit burnt out on the craft front lately. I've experienced some negativity that has made me question myself, my work, the industry, so I've been avoiding my craft room. But I got my July kit from Studio Calico and it was a great big burst of happy (between the kit and the 5 American Craft albums I purchased to clean up some layout clutter, so happy about that).

I have one sneak to share tonight, but I have a few more projects in the works. I actually got a great big huge burst of inspiration with a magazine I ran across and I can't wait to share it and my projects this month. I sure hope everything turns out like it looks in my head! :)

I sure hope you've managed to catch the great big hint I've been giving you. You did check out the sneak show, right?

More soon! Have a great night! Davinie

  1. Cute pics and love the vintage desk! I have an 8 & 12yoa. I try to spend a day alone with them at least every other week doing something fun. And, the week before school starts I take them to lunch individually to discuss plans, goals, and concerns for the upcoming school year. We all enjoy the 1 on 1 time, but now that you've mentioned taking an end of school year photo I think I should do an end of school year lunch too!

And about the negative comments...please let it pass quickly in one ear and out the other....because for every negative person there are 100 positive people who enjoy your work and look forward to seeing it here and anywhere else you post!{for some reason I have seen a lot of that Negative Nelly attitude in blogland recently} Anyway...I enjoy your work and I'm so thankful to you for Project 12 because now I am actually getting a yearly album done- and it feels amazing!

Have a beautiful week and don't stay out of your craft room too long please! :) Can't wait to see what you have in store....

Hmmm I don't understand, what could anyone have to say about you that could be negative?? You're a superstar! I'm being very serious here. I wish I could just have half the talent that you possess :)
Don't stay away from Blogland for too long, miss your posts!

  4. As a mother of 3, I am well versed in the guilt of not getting to spend as much quality time as I would like with each of my children individually. However, my husband and I make it a point to have "date nights" with each of the kids. One week I will take our oldest out for some one-on-one and the next he will take out one of the other kids. It gives us each time to bond as well as gives the kids something to look forward to.

    Love that vintage desk!!

  6. I'm sorry you experienced negativity and I hope you won't let it get you down because you are extremely talented, don't forget that! Ever! You deserve it as much as anyone else. Can't wait to see your next pages. I know what you mean about the older one kind of getting the shaft...Kati has had 5 years alone with me too while Taylor was in school, but then again, she had 5 years alone with me too. So it's all good I suppose! Kati is going to all day kindergarten and I'm so scared and nervous for her! It's a tough world out there. I don't want the bad kids being mean to her! :( I will definitely be a worried momma too.

I'm new to your blog, and you've made the "Favorites" tab on my toolbar! I do enjoy your ideas - by the way, thanks for showing the label punch. I bought it last weekend and love it! I even performed surgery on my little labels to make journaling strips!

Lovely photos of your daughter, and good job lugging the desk!

Can't wait to see what you've created in your sneak!

  8. Hello cuteness!
I love your blog, I love your work and I 'heart' you!!!!!!
I made my main blog private when I had some very mean comments (sent via email because the person wanted to fly under the radar - like a yellow belly) about a layout I did about my deceased dad. It was from a family member who has been 'cutoff'.
It hurt deeply. But I am now moving on and will be coming out in all my glory with a new blog..mean people or not!
Hang in there. Know who your true peeps are, and that you are very talented! It's the way of the world.. Write a book, some people love it, some don't. If it was easy, we would all be rockstars, right? I would not be doing Project 12 if it wasn't for you!!!

OH! Private time w/ kids: My oldest only had private time for 16 months before her little brother came along.. We do dates. Just some silly ol' mommy & me things. Even if it is running to town to do errands, it's still private time! We sneak in a lunch date, things like that...

  12. Oh, totally--love that stamp! Problem is I want parts of all the addons!

  13. That is one intriquing sneak, I'm dying to see the rest.

It is hard to relate enough to each child. My experience is that they always seem to want the same block of time and of course, you can't do that. You just have to do the best you know how, love them both equally, be creative with your time (as I'm certain you are) and take it one day at a time. You'll never be perfect so let that burden fall right to the curb and call the garbage man quick!

And don't listen to the Negative Nancys out there. There are too many to count but remember that your work is very much appreciated and your sweet spirit that much more.

  16. I know exactly what you mean. While I don't stay home with my children it's still hard to know that she's going to be at school all day vs. her day care which is really more like a second family to us.

You are an amazing designer and I always copy your pages first when I get my SC kit! Don't ever question your abilities. Whoever is saying negatives needs to get a life.

Selfishly...what is that numbers circle in your sneak? I love it!

  19. I totally missed your mention of the negative comments--how awful! Why people choose to spend their free time that way is something I will never understand. And your work is awesome!
