the Sunday Sketch and Elmwood Park sneaks

Happy Thursday!'

SKETCH

If you've ever wanted to try a 2 page layout, I have the layout and the sketch for you.  For my So Cal gallery I created a two page layout celebrating Payton's birthday, called "Age 6":

It just happens to be the Sunday sketch of the week.  Without the patterns in the background, the design  is really quite simple.  Think of it as a great big 8.5 x 11 layout on it's side:

If you'd like to give a two pager a try, you can link your layout to this blog post for a chance to win a $5 gift certificate to Studio Calico.  That and you will have one more layout finished in our album.  Win, win, right?

SNEAKS

I'll have more sneaks to share this weekend, but I also have a couple of Elmwood kit sneaks to share today.  I got more SC paper, and add ons 1 and 4 this month:

This first one is from the main kit.  That turquoise polka dot is one of the main reasons More SC paper was on my list this month.

This one here uses add-on 1 only (minus my coveted Karen Foster floss).  See the snippet of the stamp in the background?  LOVE.  Another thing to add to your carts this month?  The Colorbox White Frost Ink Pad.  I wanted a white ink that would work well on kraft and this is the ticket.

FYI:  I post my sneaks on my Instagram all the time.  You can find me under the usual, davinie.

I'll be back later with more sneaks.  Tomorrow I will be back with the summer issue of Scrapbook and Cards Today.  Yay!

Sketched: Studio Calico love - Crazy Sock Day

Hallelujah!  Girl Scout cookie selling season is over!  Just had to get. that. out.
Good Monday morning to you!
I have a lovely Studio Calico layout to share made with the State Fair line.  I was going to give instructions on how to recreate it, but then I got carried away in Photoshop and decided to create a sketch as well.  It's been a while since I shared a sketch and as I planned to do more anyway, I figured now was the time!  :)

I've learned some things since the last time I shared a sketch, so I hope you like it.  First, however, the layout:

I used the State Fair line for this one.  Morgan loves the themed days at school and really gets into her outfits.  For Crazy Sock Day she wore two different knee socks, we cut the ends off a pair of my old valentine socks, and she had socks tied in her hair.

Please note:  I have a 50mm fixed lens for my camera, which works in the often low light situations in my home.  That said, I have a hard time getting a full bod in the photo.  Her shoes are cut off on these photos.  Bummer, but you get the idea.

This is also why my next lens shall be the Canon 28mm 1.8 lens.  I have a little envelope where I stash cash here and there, saving up.

After I get that lens, I think my next splurge will be a fun Epiphanie camera bag.  Right now I have my eye on Miss Lola, but who knows what they'll come out with by the time I have my kitty stash replenshed.  ha!

Anyway, back to the layout:

I used the State Fair line to create this layout.  This isn't quite available at Studio Calico yet, but you can pick it up at some of my favorite online stores, like 2peas and AmillionLittleThings  if you don't have access to a local scrapbook store that carries it.

The base paper is the Sideshow print.  I used both the A and B sides of this fun print.

Next was red cardstock trimmed with a scallop punch, layered with fabrips.  To ensure a fabrip is straight I usually trim it with my rotary trimmer, but afterwards I take a needle and pull at the edges a bit to fray it.
Because it was a day of the week type of theme, I thought it would be fun to use the day of the week rubons.  I adhered them to a bit of the Pie Contest print and layered that over the fabrip.

For the title, I used some fun AC alphas from the Campy Trails line (Campy Trails, which plays very nicely with both Countryside and State Fair, by the way).  I also added some Elementary alphas (did you forget about those???  2peas/Studio Calico) and that was that.

I used a 2 inch circle punch on the Pie Contest print to fill in some of the spaces for fun, and at the bottom, added a label sticker and a button for some detail.

There you have it!  And how about that sketch:

I'd love to know if you like the sketch and if you ended up using it, so if you do, please link me up so I can check you out.

I think that's it for now!  I hope you have a wonderful day!  Davinie

Sketched: Wicked

Oh, I know I promised a layout with my Crate tag, and I have it sitting right here.  It's just not quite done yet and I am a bit overwhelmed this week, so it'll have to wait.

Steve is off in the hills, elk hunting and trudging through snow with his buddies, and I am headed to CKC Seattle tomorrow morning, so I have been preoccupied with my to do list and my girls to wrap my brain around too much craftiness.

That said, I actually have a layout to share today.  I made it last week.  I was rummaging through a box of memorabilia and stumbled upon a theater ticket stub.  I then remembered I had the playbill in another room.  Because I also knew a photo had been taken to further document the event, I figured it was high time a layout was made before any piece was lost.

This is my sister and I last fall when we visited her in Seattle.  She and I went to see the theatrical production of Wicked at the Paramount Theater.  If http://www.broadwayacrossamerica.com/  come to your neck of the woods and you have a choice, I would highly HIGHLY recommend seeing this show.  I am a theater lover, and this is by far my favorite show to date.  I thought the story was brilliant (It has to do with the Wizard of Oz, in case you didn't know).  SO good.

We were standing outside the theater and for some reason I had my camera (I don't normally tote it everywhere).  A fellow patron snapped this shot before we crossed the street.  I love that it included the marquee in the background!

I purchase the official playbill but I always bring home the free one you get at the theater too.  The cover worked really well as a design element on this layout.  Here's some closeups:

I didn't want to layer anything over the fun cover, so I decided on a block type pattern for this layout.

I'm happy I still had the ticket to document the date.  It's also nice to have so I can remember my seat for future performances (we were next to the aisle and fairly happy with these, but obviously, I'd love to be several rows closer if I could).

I also made use of my label punch.  I love layering them in a row like that.

Wicked supplies:
Bazzill kraft cardstock
Jillibean Soup patterned paper (purple)
Crate Paper Snow Days patterned papers / brad
Basic Grey patterned paper (white basics pack)
Cosmo Cricket chipboard alphas
EK Success label punch
Modern #20 font
machine stitching

Another thing I want to try is to include sketches when I can. My work is fairly clean and linear, which makes for a good sketch, I think. I need baby steps before doing anything fancy anyway. I tried, but couldn't figure out how to make a scallop to save my life, lol. Here's the sketch:

Please let me know if something like this interests you!  I had a bit of fun making this one, simple as it may be.

Have a great night!  Davinie
