Let's flock!

In my giveaway post I mentioned I'd be back with some instructions and tips on flocking. Now, I have never been a flocker. No flocking here. But because of Studio Calico, I have recently been dragged onto the glitter train, and flocking, well it's just the same technique.

I have never flocked before. When I think about flocking, I think of white and fluffy, so I thought I'd experiment with my first flocking using a Maya Road chipboard snowflake.

To start, I painted my chipboard white.

I then used glue and flocking using a flocking kit from Around the Block.

While applying the glue, I went out toward the edges, but I noticed as I went along that the glue kept pulling towards the center, leaving the edges bare. I don't know if it was this particular glue or if other brands would do this as well.

I then sprinkled the flocking over the top, just like a salt shaker... just like the glitter you used to use with elmer's glue in school.

I made sure there was some thickness over the whole snowflake, and then I pressed it down in order to get the glue and flocking to move out towards those edges.

Voila! Be sure to let it sit for a few hours before you use it on your project, as it takes a while to dry.

I would think that KI Gloo would work, and I'm also going to try using my QDTA (that would be Quick Dry Tacky Adhesive) and see if I get the same results.

I added my snowflake for a winter card using a couple of different winter lines from Cosmo Cricket. I also used something that is new to me, but has been around a while. I have always admired my friend Nicole's use of the Karen Foster floss on her buttons. I just happened upon a container while at my LSS and decided to try it out. I'm hooked! It's thicker and sturdier than DMC floss, and I think I'm going to start using it more on my projects. I also used a fun Martha Stewart edge punch. Very frilly and lacey.

Thanks for taking a peek! Have a great day!
