Happy 4th of July and a wee giveaway

It's the 3rd of July, my friends! Hopefully that means you have the day off and are already enjoying your holiday weekend.

We are mixing things up this year. I'm the Registrar at the girls' preschool, so felt compelled to jump in the float we will have at the Redmond parade. The kids get to throw candy and are really excited about it. Then we are off to a BBQ with pool time. A low key day.

I wanted to share a layout I did for my recent article at True North Parenting. Somewhat similar to my Project 12 challenge, I simply highlighted our day with some of my favorite pics. I used the American flag as a backdrop for this layout. Easily done!

Speaking of which, if you are sticking around the house this weekend and looking for a creative push, please check out my Project 12 challenge for June. Lovely prize, eh? I decided to go with that one because I'll be teaching a fabric album class at my LSS in August sometime, I think. I can't wait to share what I've been up to!

Before I go I thought it would be fun to do a little holiday giveaway. A few months ago Denise won my project 12 challenge and a wonderful Upper Crest punch from Fiskars. Unfortunately, at prize shipping time, I could not locate that darn punch ANYWHERE. I had to get her another one.

As luck would have it, the punch has resurfaced, and is ready to make it's place in somebody's home, as I already have one and use it every month. Do you have one? Would you like to add one to your collection? If so, just leave me a comment on this post about your weekend plans. Let's keep it to my US friends this time, okay? I love my international friends but the post office does not love me, lol.

I'll leave the comments open through Sunday and choose a winner bright and early Monday morning. Then I can ship your punch after we are done with swimming lessons.

Sound good?! Have a great weekend! Davinie

  1. Ethan and I are utilizing a picnic backpack we got for Christmas, and heading out to the park today for a lovely spread. Tomorrow we are going to be tourists in Seattle, taking in some of the touristy sights we haven't done before (since we live here...). We both took time off this weekend and were planning to head out of town, but changed our plans so we can save some money for a big vacation next spring, so.....staycation it is!

  2. We'll be experiencing small town 4th of July for the first time! We moved here last August so I'm excited to see what all our little town has to offer. DH is on call though, and holiday weekends can be a bit dicey with injuries and the like, so I may be single-parenting it.

  3. I hate to say it but my 4th of July plans this year are going to be lonely. My 2 teenagers are going to a County Fair and my hubby has to work. I have no family in the area so it will just be me and the kitties at home. Maybe I'll get some scrapping done though. :o)

  21. We are staying home! We have an incredible view from our deck of several different fireworks displays in the horizon, not to mention the ones in our own subdivision. So... why fight the traffic when we can sit on our own deck, BBQ & have a glass of wine? :-)

    Happy 4th weekend! :-)

  30. We started off our vacation by taking the boys to a minor league baseball game, total fun for all of us. Tomorrow is our town's 42nd annual Parade, got to love the floats and all the fire trucks, they even get all the antique ones from near by towns, then the country fair on the common. Picnic food and then off to see the fire works and the Boston Pops. Fun. Sunday is more low key... hopefully the weather will cooperate for a zoo trip. Phew. Hope you and your's are a grand time! Enjoy riding the float!

  31. We are VERY LOW KEY this year: my husband is on call and our baby has a high temp. virus, so there's lots of just staying around the house for us! (Perhaps a bit of scrapping too?)

  32. WOW... I happened upon your blog today... You are busy... love your 4th LO. I haven't seen online you in a long time... finally found your blog!

This weekend we are staying home... it is really dry in the PNW and all of our neighbors have very large displays they do. We are a bit concerned about fires this year.

One fun thing this weekend is going to a few antique stores this weekend! Happy 4th!

Thanks for the give-a-way... love that punch!

  50. This weekend my hubby and I just took it easy and spent some much needed time together. Yesterday was a day with a friend and some swimming. Today we went out to celebrate our 3 month wedding anniversary at Melting Pot for some YUMMY fondue. Tomorrow we are beginning a week long body cleanse and it's inspiring me to clean up other parts of my life as well which is good since we are moving later this month.

  51. We have the biggest fireworks show in our state...practically in our front yard. THe neighbors all ride their 4 wheelers up the street to the best vantage point and we just chat and chill....then ooh and ahhh. So nice.
The upper crest is one of the FEW border punches I don't have...so I'd like to add it to my collection.
    Thanks!

  57. Our plans were calm and simple this year . . . after my 8-mile run we went on a two-hour canoe trip in the Yakima River . . . took a nap when we got home for about 4 hours . . . I was pooped and completely drained and sunburned to boot, BBQed and then lit off fireworks. It was nice that we didn't even have to leave our front yard! :)
