Sketched: Wicked

Oh, I know I promised a layout with my Crate tag, and I have it sitting right here.  It's just not quite done yet and I am a bit overwhelmed this week, so it'll have to wait.

Steve is off in the hills, elk hunting and trudging through snow with his buddies, and I am headed to CKC Seattle tomorrow morning, so I have been preoccupied with my to do list and my girls to wrap my brain around too much craftiness.

That said, I actually have a layout to share today.  I made it last week.  I was rummaging through a box of memorabilia and stumbled upon a theater ticket stub.  I then remembered I had the playbill in another room.  Because I also knew a photo had been taken to further document the event, I figured it was high time a layout was made before any piece was lost.

This is my sister and I last fall when we visited her in Seattle.  She and I went to see the theatrical production of Wicked at the Paramount Theater.  If http://www.broadwayacrossamerica.com/  come to your neck of the woods and you have a choice, I would highly HIGHLY recommend seeing this show.  I am a theater lover, and this is by far my favorite show to date.  I thought the story was brilliant (It has to do with the Wizard of Oz, in case you didn't know).  SO good.

We were standing outside the theater and for some reason I had my camera (I don't normally tote it everywhere).  A fellow patron snapped this shot before we crossed the street.  I love that it included the marquee in the background!

I purchase the official playbill but I always bring home the free one you get at the theater too.  The cover worked really well as a design element on this layout.  Here's some closeups:

I didn't want to layer anything over the fun cover, so I decided on a block type pattern for this layout.

I'm happy I still had the ticket to document the date.  It's also nice to have so I can remember my seat for future performances (we were next to the aisle and fairly happy with these, but obviously, I'd love to be several rows closer if I could).

I also made use of my label punch.  I love layering them in a row like that.

Wicked supplies:
Bazzill kraft cardstock
Jillibean Soup patterned paper (purple)
Crate Paper Snow Days patterned papers / brad
Basic Grey patterned paper (white basics pack)
Cosmo Cricket chipboard alphas
EK Success label punch
Modern #20 font
machine stitching

Another thing I want to try is to include sketches when I can. My work is fairly clean and linear, which makes for a good sketch, I think. I need baby steps before doing anything fancy anyway. I tried, but couldn't figure out how to make a scallop to save my life, lol. Here's the sketch:

Please let me know if something like this interests you!  I had a bit of fun making this one, simple as it may be.

Have a great night!  Davinie
