True North and a layout

Happy Monday! How was your weekend? Mine was super busy. We did yard work, did some spring cleaning, went to a BBQ, a birthday party, and I think I did 8 loads of laundry too. We have a crazy week ahead of us and I need to get prepared! On Tuesday we are headed to the lake for camping, and then on Friday we race home, drop off the trailer, and run to Portland for the Rose Festival. My mom races in the Dragon Boat races, so every year we jet up there to watch her race, go to the Carnival, and go the big parade. It's a lot of fun! I did NOT realize Steve had scheduled camping as he did, though, or I would have changed that plan. What a weird week! I'm still going to have campfire smoke on me when I get to the Portland Marriott! lol I hope the kids adjust fine.

Anyway, I thought I'd share a couple of projects with you. My June article is up at
True North Parenting. For June I thought I'd start a mini album to record all that summer fun. Normally I'm a huge procrastinator, so the fact that I already have my first travel logged is a huge accomplishment for me. The way I set up the book will make it really easy to update it as the summer moves along. I'm really excited about it.

I used my Bind-it-all and made a 6x12 chipboard book. I used some of my favorite Pink Paislee and Scenic Route paper, and for the cover, I used some super cute chipboard people and sheers to embellish it. I then used the mini Making Memories sticker alphas with some Maya Road journaling sheers to document the date and location. On each page I have 4 pics to summarize the event, and bullet points to note key things my kids said or fun things we did. We tend to go to many of the same places every year, so this will be great to help me keep track of what happened where, when. I wish I had been making one of these for a few years now!

I also wanted to share a little layout I did for the monthly challenge at Scenic Route. I just love that challenge! This month was die cuts, so I made a couple of spring flowers in flower pots with a picture of my girs. My journaling reads:

You only have one sister. You have to love and take care of her. That's what I always say to you two. It's my hope that you are always close. I'm trying to nurture that relationship now.

One of the things I purged this weekend was my maternity clothes. I think I'm finally able to let go and say we are done having kids. You may not know, but I had a miscarriage in early 2007 and it has been hard to deal with in some ways, because I didn't want to say we were finished because I was scared of having another one. I wanted to feel complete because we were complete. I am finally to that point now. It feels good! Growing up I have two cousins that are 14 months apart and I have always been envious of their relationship. I'm trying to get my girls to feel the same way about each other. I have 3 siblings so it does worry me sometimes that they only have each other. No other choices! They have to stick together.

On another note, my LSS is having a scrappy yard sale in a couple of weeks. I have never participated in one or been to one, but I am so excited to purge my stash. I have WAY too much stuff. In honor of that, I'm going to post a little giveaway tomorrow with some of my good goodies. I promise it won't be too old!

Have a great day! Davinie

  8. That's a gorgeous layout. I love how you have done the flowers.

A miscarriage is hard to deal with no matter when it happens. I had one between my son and daughter, and I still sometimes wonder what might have been.

    Sending you *hugs*.

And Davinie, you are a freakin' GENIUS to use the Scenic Route diecuts as flowers!!!! LOVE THAT!!! So sorry about the miscarriage, that is tough. I am glad for you that you have purged your maternity clothes. I still have mine and even though it does not look like I am having my fourth as I wish, I am not there yet to get rid of my or my children's baby clothes. I am still hoping. Just not there yet.
